Barleycorn & Rye is not your ordinary Irish and Americana band. The band draws upon the roots of traditional Irish ballads and Americana roots music. Together, the combination creates a lively and fun performance guaranteed to keep your hands clapping and feet moving! When performing as a full five-piece band, reviews have stated that their music is like that of the Irish rock bands The Pogues, The Young Dubliners, and Scythian.
The band was first established in the spring of 2012 when founding members Dan Ouimet (upright bass, mandolin, drums) and Michael Granatosky (violin, tenor banjo) first started collaborating. The two wanted to create a different kind of band--one that would incorporate the best of traditional Irish folk ballads and great Americana folk songs. Their busy schedule and growing fan base makes it clear that there is an audience for traditional music with a contemporary kick.
In the summer of 2012 the band was lucky to find Al Segars, one of the area’s finest five-string banjo players and guitarist. Al’s experience as a performer and versatility as a multi-instrumentalist has solidified his key role in the band’s sound. Later that same year, the three members of the band found Dave Deharde, an experienced guitarist and solo performer to finish our the core of the Barleycorn & Rye sound.
The band released their debut album "The Rowdy Sessions" in March 2013 and is available at live shows as well as on iTunes and Amazon. The band is currently at work on a second album for release for early 2014. LIKE the band on Facebook to receive updates on shows, band news, and events.
The full Barleycorn & Rye band as well as the BC&R Trio (Dan, Michael, and Al) are currently performing all across central North Carolina from Greensboro to Saxapahaw to Raleigh and beyond!!
